Manchester United secured a convincing 3-0 Premier League victory over Brighton after scoring three times in 15 minutes at the American Express Stadium.
Patrick Dorgu opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before Bryan Mbeumo doubled United’s advantage shortly before half-time.
Bruno Fernandes added the third immediately after the restart, completing an influential performance in which he also assisted the opening goal.
Manchester United remain patient
The match began without many clear opportunities as both teams attempted to establish control.
Brighton saw slightly more of the ball but struggled to turn that possession into a genuine attacking threat. Manchester United remained organised and waited for opportunities to attack the spaces left by the hosts.
The visitors eventually found their breakthrough in the 33rd minute.
Fernandes created the opening for Dorgu, who scored to put United ahead and begin the decisive period of the match.
The goal was Dorgu’s first major contribution, but it would not be his last.
Mbeumo doubles the advantage
Brighton attempted to respond but continued struggling to test the Manchester United defence.
The hosts finished the match with 13 shots, three more than United, but only two of those efforts were on target.
United were much more efficient.
Amad Diallo created the second goal in the 44th minute, finding Mbeumo as the forward doubled the visitors’ advantage.
The timing of the goal left Brighton with little opportunity to respond before half-time. United entered the interval 2-0 ahead after converting two of their clearest openings.
Fernandes puts the result beyond Brighton
Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler introduced Yankuba Minteh for Maxim De Cuyper at half-time as the hosts looked for a way back into the contest.
Instead, United scored again three minutes after the restart.
Dorgu turned provider, creating the chance for Fernandes to make it 3-0. The goal was confirmed following a VAR review.
Fernandes had now contributed a goal and an assist, while Dorgu had done the same.
Their combination for two of United’s three goals underlined the visitors’ effectiveness in the decisive moments.
Brighton changes fail to produce a response
Brighton made three more substitutions around the hour mark.
Solly March, Carlos Baleba and Charalampos Kostoulas replaced Diego Gómez, James Milner and Danny Welbeck as the hosts attempted to introduce fresh energy.
United remained comfortable.
Their three-goal advantage allowed them to manage the remainder of the match and give opportunities to several substitutes. Shea Lacey replaced Dorgu before Leny Yoro, Tyler Fletcher and Joshua Zirkzee were introduced.
Brighton continued advancing through free kicks and throw-ins, but they could not find a consolation goal.
United’s finishing makes the difference
Brighton finished with 51 per cent possession, completed 441 passes and attempted 13 shots.
Those figures did not translate into enough danger. The hosts managed only two shots on target and failed to win a corner.
Manchester United registered seven shots on target from ten attempts, converting three of them.
That efficiency decided the match. United were more composed in the attacking third and punished Brighton during a 15-minute spell either side of half-time.
The victory left Manchester United third in the Premier League table, while Brighton dropped to eighth.
