Morocco moved into a strong position in Group C after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Scotland at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

An early goal from Ismael Saibari proved decisive as the Atlas Lions earned three valuable points in Foxborough, lifting themselves level with Brazil on four points and strengthening their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

The match could hardly have started better for Morocco. Just two minutes after kickoff, Brahim Diaz found space to create the opening goal, with Saibari finishing confidently to give the North Africans an immediate advantage.

That early breakthrough set the tone for much of the contest. Morocco controlled possession, dictated the tempo, and consistently forced Scotland onto the back foot. Their midfield trio moved the ball efficiently while the Scottish defense spent long periods absorbing pressure.

Despite trailing from the second minute, Scotland struggled to create clear-cut opportunities. Steve Clarke’s side managed six shots throughout the match but failed to register a single effort on target, highlighting Morocco’s defensive discipline and organization.

Morocco’s dominance was reflected in the statistics. They finished with 60 percent possession, completed 666 passes, and achieved an impressive 91 percent pass accuracy. Scotland, by comparison, completed 441 passes and spent much of the evening chasing the game.

The Atlas Lions continued to threaten after the break, with Brahim Diaz, Bilal El Khannouss, and Saibari causing problems before eventually making way for fresh legs. Soufiane Rahimi, Chemsdine Talbi, and other substitutes helped Morocco see out the result comfortably during the closing stages.

Scotland attempted to inject energy into their attack through substitutions, introducing Ben Doak, Lyndon Dykes, and Kenny McLean. However, Morocco’s defense remained composed and rarely looked troubled.

Andy Robertson’s yellow card midway through the second half reflected Scotland’s growing frustration as Morocco continued to control the match. The Atlas Lions limited their opponents to speculative attacks while protecting their narrow lead with confidence.

The victory leaves Morocco second in Group C on four points, level with leaders Brazil, while Scotland remain on three points after two matches. Haiti sit bottom of the group with no points.

With qualification now firmly within reach, Morocco will head into their final group fixture full of confidence, knowing another positive result could secure a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout rounds.

Scotland and Morocco battle for control of Group C as knockout qualification race heats up.

Scotland and Morocco meet in a fascinating FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C showdown with both sides looking to strengthen their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

The match will be played at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, with kickoff scheduled for 01:00 EAT.

After the opening round of fixtures, Scotland sit top of Group C with three points following their victory over Haiti, while Morocco occupy second place after sharing the points with Brazil in an impressive opening performance.

Scotland aiming for back-to-back wins

Scotland made an ideal start to their World Cup campaign by securing a narrow victory in their opening match, giving them an early advantage in the race for qualification.

Another victory would guarantee six points from two matches and put Steve Clarke’s side in a commanding position heading into the final group fixture.

Scotland will be hoping to maintain their defensive solidity while taking advantage of any opportunities on the counterattack.

Morocco looking to build on Brazil draw

Morocco impressed in their opening match by holding Brazil to a draw, underlining why they remain one of Africa’s strongest sides.

The Atlas Lions possess pace, technical quality and experience across the pitch and will be confident of causing problems for Scotland.

A victory would move Morocco to four points and potentially take them to the top of Group C.

Group C picture

After the opening round of matches:

  1. Scotland – 3 points
  2. Morocco – 1 point
  3. Brazil – 1 point
  4. Haiti – 0 points

With Brazil also chasing qualification, every point could prove crucial in determining the two teams that progress to the Round of 32.

Match outlook

The pre-match projections slightly favor Morocco despite Scotland leading the group.

Win probability:

  • Morocco: 57%
  • Draw: 26%
  • Scotland: 17%

Scotland will rely on organization and discipline, while Morocco are expected to dominate possession and create more attacking opportunities.

With qualification implications already growing after just one matchday, this promises to be one of the standout fixtures in Group C.
