West Ham scored three times in the second half to secure a convincing 3-0 Premier League victory over Leeds United at London Stadium.
Valentín Castellanos broke the deadlock in the 67th minute after being set up by Jarrod Bowen. Bowen then added the second before substitute Callum Wilson completed the victory in added time.
Leeds had more possession and completed more passes, but West Ham were considerably more dangerous in front of goal, registering seven shots on target to the visitors’ three.
Leeds frustrate West Ham before half-time
Neither team found a breakthrough during a closely contested opening half.
West Ham attempted to build pressure through attacking throw-ins and set pieces, but Leeds defended their penalty area well enough to reach the interval level.
The visitors also found opportunities to advance from free kicks, although neither side was able to turn those situations into a clear advantage.
Leeds collected two early yellow cards as Jaka Bijol was booked in the 10th minute and Brenden Aaronson followed in the 25th.
The interruptions contributed to a disjointed first half in which both teams struggled to establish a sustained attacking rhythm.
Castellanos breaks the deadlock
West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo introduced Wilson at half-time, replacing Pablo as the hosts searched for a more effective attacking approach.
The change did not produce an immediate goal, but West Ham gradually became the more threatening side.
Their pressure was rewarded in the 67th minute when Bowen created the opening for Castellanos. The striker converted to give West Ham a lead that their second-half performance increasingly deserved.
Leeds responded with a double attacking change three minutes later. Daniel James and Wilfried Gnonto replaced Bijol and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the visitors attempted to find an equaliser.
Instead, West Ham continued to create the better opportunities.
Bowen puts West Ham in control
Bowen moved from provider to scorer in the 79th minute.
Mateus Fernandes supplied the assist as the West Ham captain doubled the home side’s advantage and placed the match firmly under their control.
The goal capped an influential performance from Bowen, who was directly involved in the two moments that transformed a goalless contest into a commanding West Ham lead.
Leeds introduced Joël Piroe and Facundo Buonanotte as part of another double substitution, but the visitors could not find a way through the West Ham defence.
They finished the match with 57 per cent possession and 412 completed passes, yet managed only three shots on target.
Wilson completes the victory
Wilson’s introduction at half-time was rewarded deep into added time.
Crysencio Summerville created the opportunity in the 94th minute, allowing Wilson to score West Ham’s third goal and complete an emphatic second-half performance.
The substitute’s goal meant all three of West Ham’s recognised attackers contributed decisively. Castellanos opened the scoring, Bowen registered a goal and an assist, and Wilson completed the result from the bench.
West Ham finished with 13 shots and tested the Leeds goalkeeper seven times. They were also stronger from set-piece situations, winning six corners compared with Leeds’ four.
The 3-0 scoreline reflected West Ham’s greater efficiency rather than their share of possession. Leeds had more of the ball, but the hosts created the better chances and made them count after the interval.
